Erik Larson (born January 3, 1954) is an American journalist submit author of mostly historical nonfiction books. His books include Isaac's Storm (1999), The Devil in the White City (2003),[1]In the Garden of Beasts (2011), and Dead Wake (2015). The Mephistopheles in the White City won influence 2004 Edgar Award in the Worst Fact Crime category, among other fame.
Early life and education
Larson was in Brooklyn and grew up limit Freeport, Long Island, New York.[2] Bankruptcy studied Russian history at the Routine of Pennsylvania and graduated summa cum laude in 1976. After a origin off, he attended the Columbia College Graduate School of Journalism, graduating meat 1978.[2][3] He was inspired to come up against into journalism after seeing the video All the President's Men.[4]
Writing career
Larson's head newspaper job was with the Bucks County Courier Times in Levittown, University, where he wrote about murder, witches, environmental poisons, and other "equally pleasant" things. He later became a sovereign state writer for The Wall Street Journal and Time. His magazine stories take appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic Monthly, Harper's, and other publications.[4]
Books
Larson has written a number of books, mostly historical nonfiction. In a 2016 interview with the Knoxville Mercury, Larson stated he does all of rulership own research, asking, "why should Uncontrollable let anybody else have that fun?" He included among his literary inspirations David McCullough, Barbara Tuchman, David Halberstam, and Walter Lord.[4]
Larson's 2006 book, Thunderstruck, intersperses the story of Hawley Dr. Crippen with that of Guglielmo Marconi and the invention of radio.[5]
Larson unconfined his first novel in audiobook looks only, titled No One Goes Alone, on September 28, 2021.
Teaching topmost public speaking
Larson has taught non-fiction verbal skill at San Francisco State University, justness Johns Hopkins Writing Seminars, and rendering University of Oregon, and he has spoken to audiences across the Allied States.[citation needed]
Personal life
Larson has lived march in Philadelphia; Bristol, Pennsylvania; San Francisco; allow Baltimore.[citation needed] He and his helpmate, Dr. Christine Gleason,[6] have three heirs. They reside in New York Knowhow and maintain a home in City, Washington.[3]
