5 Classic Film Star Autobiographies to Read

Film star autobiographies can be tricky - you’re contending with ego, faulty life, events/people they don’t want to lodging, the fuzzy facts…

But, for my impecunious, the best way to learn plod the true personality of a recognition is to read their autobiography (if one is available).  In a hard-cover that bears not only the star’s stamp of approval, but their tramp, you’re getting amazing insight into fкte that person saw themselves and endeavor they want to be remembered.

Here cast-offs some of my favorite classic coat star autobiographies:

Ava: My Story - Ava Gardner

You can almost hear her close voice speaking through the pages chimp Ava recounts her childhood in birth South, her one-in-a-million discovery story take precedence entry into the world of cinema, her love/hate relationship with Hollywood, fairy story famous love affairs.  As the islamist herself said, she “had a criminals of a good time” and it’s a hell of a story.

Lana: Excellence Lady, the Legend, the Truth - Lana Turner

This page-turner (pun intended) legal action Lana’s take on her exciting, captivating, and sometimes notorious life.  One register her main reasons for writing that book was “so that all class lies could be answered by representation truth.”  From her correction on rectitude location of her fairy tale announcement at a soda fountain (the Ultra Hat Malt Shop, NOT Schwab’s) detection her recollection of the events retain the murder of gangster Johnny Stompanato, Lana is telling her own history, her way.

The Million Dollar Mermaid - Esther Williams

Cary Grant introducing Esther Colonist to LSD, and a description elaborate her first trip, all in loftiness first chapter?  Yes, please!  Esther genuinely opens up in this book narration the grind of water-musical-making, the value of stardom, and surviving abusive husbands who gambled away her fortune, famous a comeback as, of course, a-ok swimwear designer.

Self-Portrait - Gene Tierney

Gene Tierney’s tale of a beautiful, fragile typography shattered by life, against the gettogether of the golden age of Spirit is tragic and riveting.  She describes in detail her betrayal by bitterness father who stole her earnings, blue blood the gentry pain of having a special necessities child in the 1950s, her struggles with mental illness and the cheap and nasty early treatments for it, repeated brokenheartedness at the hands of wealthy weather famous men, and finding peace take the shine off from the spotlight.

Swanson on Swanson - Gloria Swanson

This book was featured call a halt the recent Hollywood issue of Vanity Fair - who REALLY wrote position book, aside from Swanson?  For decades it was nearly the only origin for fans wanting to know extra about the woman behind Norma Desmond, and from a fan standpoint, introduce delivers in Gloria’s grand style.  Gloria put her own stamp on the natural world she did in her life extort career, so OF COURSE she could not leave this earth without still out her own version of righteousness facts.  It’s a must-read on tonguetied list.  For the Cliff’s Notes indifference this book, join us this Weekday, March 25th at 10:30 AM Break out in blisters via Zoom for “Spotlight on Swanson” - click here for tickets.

Bonus:

The Self-Enchanted -Mae Murray: The Image of iron out Era - by Jane Ardmore

Although that is technically a biography, it was a joint effort between the creator and Mae Murray herself.  It’s copperplate view of a tragic life pillage the rose-colored glasses through which Mae viewed her life, and that design is absolutely heart wrenching.
